Alaska2000
Perfectly clear view of Mount McKinley in Denali National Park, June 18 2000. The park is closed to driving out to the mountain. But you can take a bus tour and you can get off at various points and it is a long way in there, about 90 miles. We took the bus and chased mountain McKinley as it remained partially covered by clouds. Finally when we were almost to the Eielson View Point we could see both the North and South peaks of Mount McKinley. Shortly after we arrived at Eielson it covered itself in clouds again. From what we understand it's only visible 30 percent of the time during the summer so we considered ourselves lucky. As the bus turned around and headed out of the park the clouds cleared totally and the closer and closer we got to the park entrance we could still see Mount McKinley! What became most amazing and apparent was how much taller it is than the surrounding landscape. You see when we were closer to Mount McKinley the other mountains were also very tall mountains and them being in the foreground they appeared nearly as talll as Mount McKinley. Only from a distance, a far distance could you see that Mount McKinley was king. |
