4 ~ The Dalton Highway

The Dalton Highway (State Highway 11) is the highway built to
aid in construction of the Alaska Oil Pipeline. We traveled it from
Fairbanks to Prudhoe Bay and back. (The Pipeline is from Valdez on the Pacific Coast
to Prudhoe Bay on the Artic Ocean.)
This is some highway! 489 miles from Fairbanks to Deadhorse, AK.
One can only drive to Deadhorse, and there you take a tour of the Prudhoe Bay
facilities. Enjoy your visit with us! Oh, watch out for airplanes!
Yep, those are our tires sitting on the side of the road. We lost one 100+ miles
short of Deadhorse, it was ruined totally. The second one went flat 100 miles
south of Deadhorse on the way back. After an hour and a half waiting, a driver
stopped and plugged the one that was a simple flat, and we got back to Fairbanks
on it, and spent the next morning at Sears getting that one repaired properly
and the other one replaced.
